What does network segmentation mean and why does it matter?
Network segmentation means dividing one flat network into separate zones, so that a device in one zone cannot freely reach everything in another. It matters because most damage in an attack happens after the first machine is compromised, while the attacker moves sideways. On a flat network, one infected laptop can reach the accounting server. On a segmented one, it cannot.
How do you handle load shedding and power interruptions?
Power resilience is designed in rather than added afterwards: correctly sized uninterruptible power supplies for network equipment and servers, graceful automated shutdown before batteries are exhausted, and monitoring that reports battery health before it fails. The most common fault found on site is a UPS that has been beeping for months with a dead battery inside it.
